SHARKS LOSE TO THE ROX IN 11 INNINGS

The Shark Tank Presented by Chesca’s Restaurant

After winning 9 out of the last 10 games, the Sharks continued their march on the Futures Collegiate Baseball League with an away game against the Brockton Rox. Entering last night’s game the Sharks found themselves in sole possession of 2nd place after beating the Torrington Titans on Wednesday with a 2-1 win behind a combined gutty pitching performance from Mike McFerran and Corey Laliberte.

The Sharks winning ways came to an end in the bottom of the 11th with 2 outs and one strike away from going into the twelfth inning against the Brockton Rox.

Dan Weigel put together his third strong outing in a row by going 6 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned runs) on 7 hits. This was followed by a solid 3 inning performance by Kyle Brenner who allowed no runs. Ronnie Rosario took the loss after going 1.2 innings allowing a single to Tanner Reibenspies with 1 out followed by a stolen base then a 2 out single by Brendan Doonan on a 1-2 count.

Jack Colton, Karl Kapinos and Cale Hanson each had 2 hits for the Sharks. The Sharks All-Star shortstop, Eric Jensen, was hurt prior to the start of the game during batting practice when he was hit with a line drive in the leg. He will be X-rayed as a precaution this morning.

The Sharks send their ace, Mike Bradstreet (6-0; ERA 1.28), to the mound today to face the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide. The Sharks lead the Torrington Titans by 2 games in the loss column and are now 8-2 in their last 10 games.

Next home game is today against the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide @ 5:00 PM.

Sunday is a special 12:00 PM start against the Brockton Rox, which also happens to be free hot dog lunch day!

The 5-K race has been cancelled for Sunday.

If you would like to help out the Sharks, we are looking for volunteers for the remainder of this season & next season and host families for next season. Ask a member of the Sharks staff to speak to a current host family about their experience, if you are interested.
