Leadoff hitter Rob Hogenkamp for the Seacoast Mavericks driving in 3 runs as the Seacoast Mavericks won their second straight game, 8-6, beating the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks at Leary Field on Sunday.
The Mavericks scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-5 lead off Matt Kuhlenberg. Kuhlenberg was wild in his short stint, walking 4 and allowing 6 earned runs. The Sharks were winning 5-3 coming into the bottom of the fifth when things fell apart for Kuhlenberg. Alex Mastrianni, who started the game for the Sharks, gave up two unearned runs in 3 innings to start the game. Matt Timoney finished the game strong going 3.1 innings with 6 Ks and no runs. Overall the Sharks played a sloppy game making 3 errors. On the plus side, the Sharks continued to pound the ball collecting 12 hits. Dylan Tice had 3 hits and 1 RBI. Nick Sell continued his good start with another 2 hits and 1 RBI and is batting .444. Max DiTondo also went 2-4 and is batting .400 after two games. Brett Holmgren had another 2 RBI game going 1-4 leading the team in RBIs with 4.
The Sharks are staying overnight near Portsmouth to play Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide on Monday before returning to Martha’s Vineyard for opening day on Tuesday at the Shark Tank @ 6:00 PM against the Brockton Rox. Tuesday’s game is also Little League and Babe Ruth night. Come on out and see the new stadium seats purchased from Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles.
Wednesday’s game against Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide is also the first “running of the mascots” race at the Shark Tank.
