SHARKS DOWNED BY LONG BALL POWER OF NAVIGATORS

The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks lost to the North Shore Navigators 7-4. The Navigators hit 2 2-run home-runs and starter Walker O’Connor (West Florida) was able to shut down the bats of the Sharks. Sharks starter Matt Timoney (Harvard) allowed 5 runs and took the loss on the night. The Navigators started the scoring off quickly with a run in the 1st. In the 2nd, Blaise Lezynski (Notre Dame) hit his first home-run of the summer, which made the score 3-0 Navigators. North Shore was able to tack on 2 more runs in the top of the 4th, but Sharks were able to get on the board in the bottom half of the inning. A sacrifice fly from Chris Miller (Seton Hill) scored Erick Brenk (Wofford) from third.

Both teams struck again in the 7th with 2 runs apiece. A 2 run home-run from Joe Love (Northern Colorado) put the Navigators up 7-1 but the Sharks were able to respond quickly. An error by the shortstop of the Navigators allowed Tad Gold (Endicott) and Dylan Tice (IUP) to score for the Sharks. A final run in the 8th for the Sharks would be all the offensive power they could muster, with the final score ending at 7-4.

Martha’s Vineyard remains in first place in the Futures League, a game ahead of Nashua. The Sharks return to action Wednesday (7/17) at the Brockton Rox. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
