The Martha’s Vineyard Shark were not able to overcome 4 errors on the night and were downed by the Seacoast Mavericks 5-4. Sharks starter Kyle Brenner (Brandeis) had a no hitter through 4 innings, but ultimately took the loss after allowing 5 runs. Mavericks starter Josh Jacques (East Tennessee) got the win after allowing the first run of the game. In the 5th innning, Ryan Siegel (Mercyhurst) hit a solo home-run to right field, his first homer of the summer.
The Mavericks were able to get on the board in the top of the 6th on a sacrifice from TJ Lynch (URI) that scored Chris Hoyt (Stonehill) from 3rd. The Sharks were able to come right back and get a run in the bottom half of the inning. A Chris Miller (Seton Hill) RBI single scored Eric Brenk (Wofford), which put the Sharks up 2-1. However, this lead would be short-lived for the Sharks.
After putting runners on 1st and 2nd, an error on the Sharks center-fielder allowed a run to score for the Mavericks. A 3-run homer from Jonathan Salcedo (Maine) gave the Mavericks a 5-2 lead. The Sharks chipped away at the lead with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning, but they were unable to come all the way back. Despite the loss, Siegel continues to lead the league in batting average at .400 and the Sharks maintain 1.5 game lead on the Silver Knights in the Futures league. Friday at 11 am is kids day at the sharktank against the Brockton Rox.
