Game 2:

The Sharks were able to use a big 3rd inning to complete the sweep of the Dirt Dawgs 6-4. Once again it was a Sharks reliever who was able to get the win. Max Slade allowed no runs while striking out 3 to get the win, while Jon Silva (Pace) took the loss for Wachusett. Sharks reliever Matt Binder (Millersville) pitched for the 2nd time in one day and was able to strike out 5 out of the last 6 outs.

The Dirt Dawgs were able to score quickly in the top of the 1st off a Mike Corin (URI) sacrifice fly. 2 more runs were added to the Dirt Dawgs lead in the following innings off a Joe Breen (Southern CT.) home-run and Thomas Buonopane (URI) RBI double. In the bottom half of the inning, Steve Buckley (WNEU) knocked in a run for the Sharks to put the score at 3-1. It looked like the Dirt Dawgs might put the game away for good after another run in the 4th, but the Sharks were able to battle back in the bottom half of the inning with 4 runs of their own.

Jon Testani (UCONN) knocked in the first run of the inning off a sac-fly. Jack Roberts (Williams) then was able to knock in 2 more runs with an RBI single, which was followed up by walk to Brendan Cox (Mercyhurst) with the bases loaded. Martha’s Vineyard was able to tack on another run in the 5th with a sacrifice fly from Cox to put the score at 6-4. Binder was able to finish off the game with a stellar 2 innings after striking out 5 batters.
